Barbara Appleby
In a time when nearly everything is throwaway we want to return to the idea of heirlooms. Creating handmade artwork that can be enjoyed and passed down from one generation to the next says Barbara Appleby of Barbara Appleby Books. She took her life style and the way generations before her has loved and lived and then thought about modern society. All of the things being lost and that way of life disappearing more with each passing year. She needed a way to show future generations the beauty and heartfelt love of nature and the gentle life style. And she also needed the technology to get it to the people that would love it as much as she did. She excels at her art and uses tools that are antique to continue her craft. One of her favorites is fountain pens. She makes her own walnut ink in the dead of winter. The ink she makes she uses till the following winter and then she makes more using walnuts from the back of her yard that her mother had planted over thirty years ago.
